Seahawks starting OL goes down
Pete Carroll, in his Monday presser, confirmed that starting center Max Unger suffered a high ankle sprain, as well as a "twisted" knee, meaning he could miss 3-4 weeks. Carroll did not rule out the possibility that Unger could miss the rest of the season either.
"We’ve got to see how he responds," Carroll said, via the team website. "High ankle sprains are all different. Max hasn’t had one of these before. It’s his first time through it, and he’ll have to figure it out as he goes. It is a second-degree sprain so it is legit.”
As for the Seahawks' next move, former backup Lemuel Jeanpierre, placed on injured reserve in September before being released in an injury settlement, is an option.
“He’s been out there for some time now,” Carroll said. “We know he’s out there. Everybody’s an option.”
Jeanpierre, if brought back, could end up starting ahead of second-year player Patrick Lewis.
Carroll said linebacker Bobby Wagner could return to practice Wednesday and play this week. Left guard James Carpenter, cornerback Marcus Burley and linebacker Brock Coyle also have a solid chance of returning this week.
“Bobby had a great workout at the game, and he had a great one again today,” Carroll said. “That puts him in position to practice on Wednesday, and we’ll see how he does, we’ll see how he takes it. He’ll have a chance to play this week if all goes well for him, which would be awesome. We’ve missed him for so long. I can’t even remember the last time he played. It would be great to have him back.”
