Carpinteria High School announces new Athletic Hall of Fame inductees
Carpinteria High School has announced five new inductees into the Warriors’ Athletic Hall of Fame who will be honored at halftime of Carpinteria’s November 8 game and at a banquet the following day.
The 2013 inductees are: Kevin Purcell and Peter Ruiz, an inseparable pair of All-CIF basketball players from the 1970s (CHS class of 1974); DeeAndra Pilkington McGuff, a three-year starting pitcher for the Warriors softball team who went on to earn All-American honors at California Lutheran University (CHS class of 1986); Micheline Sheaffer White, a CIF Champion and record holder in the discus and former UCSB discus record holder (CHS class of 1988); and Coley Candaele, who led the Warriors to four CIF Football Championships, three as quarterback and one as head coach, and won the State title in the 1600 meters (CHS class of 1990).
There are currently 39 members in Carpinteria High’s Athletic Hall of Fame. The last group, which included Lou Panizzon and Henry Gonzalez among others, was inducted in 2010.
The banquet, hosted at the Boys and Girls Club of Carpinteria, will also serve as an opportunity to honor Carpinteria High School’s 100th year. The athletic department will introduce the “Carpinteria High School Athletics Centennial Fund,” established with the goal of raising $100,000 and eventually creating an endowment to help sustain the quality level of athletic programs that CHS currently offers to 600 participants in 18 sports.
Tickets for the banquet will be $40 each, with tables of 10 available for $400. To make a reservation, contact HallofFame@WarriorCountry.com or call 805/570-1866.
