Sixers acquire Wroten
The remaking of the 76ers continues.
The team has acquired Tony Wroten from the Memphis Grizzlies Thursday for a protected future second-round pick, a league source confirmed.
However, the pick is unlikely to ever go to the Grizzlies. As a result, the Sixers basically surrendered nothing for Wroten, a 2012 first-round selection.
The source added that this move was about acquiring the 6-foot-6 point guard’s 1.1 million salary. Including his pay, the Sixers have around $41.2 million of salary guaranteed to 10 players for the upcoming season. NBA teams must have a minium payroll of $52.811 million.
Wroten averaged just 2.6 points and 1.2 assists and 7.7 minutes last season while playing in 35 games.
The 20-year-old scored a career-high 11 points in a victory over the Brooklyn Nets on January 25. Wroten also finished with four rebounds, two assists in 23 minutes during that game.
The Grizzlies took him with 25th overall pick after he averaged 16.7 points, five rebounds and 3.6 assists in lone season at the University of Washington. The Renton, Wash. native was named the PAC-12 Freshman of the Year and garnered conference honors.
