As the Autumn winds of a new NFL Season waft from Seattle to Miami The great gladiators of violence Americans call NFL football players once again rise from the rigors of OTA,s team meetings and preseason games. The results may include uniforms stained by grass and mixed with the blood of of an angry adversary.
For fans of teams in Seattle, Washington D.C . Miami and Cleveland I want you to keep this in mind. 1. Failure is part of the process. This concept came to light for me this week as my own plans were blown up
at the academic line of scrimmage. It seemed like Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen , Rosie Greir and Lamar Lundy former NFL greats of another era landed on top of me with a thud so loud you might have felt the seismic waves as far away as Blaine WA. Did I fumble the ball in the process? No. Another former Ram Roman Gabriel fumbled the football 105 times in his playing days. He was a above average NFL QB. Far warning to all of of us who collectively have 1st year QB at the helm. I include myself in this as I expect a few woes from Russell Wilson. as I cheer for and cover Seattle this year. One thing that I need to stress is we as fans and people need to respect the process of learning and that includes making mistakes as we learn.
I am not expecting my younger readers to grasp this as quickly as some who are older. I will admit I took my mental abilities for granted as a younger man. Now for fans, as your Rookie gunslinger throws interceptions and fumbles more times than Roman Gabriel on a good day. A few things are going to happen.
1. you will scream at your radio or television with aggression with no one in the room.2 Your spouse and family members will become concerned enough about your mental state that they will a. exit the room as you verbalize select four letter words that you choose to express your displeasure at another mistake. b. exile you to your room and /or man cave and you will be told not to come out until you can behave. As fans our expectations are high. On the football side this year maybe we need to call an audible at the line of scrimmage regarding 2012 expectations. As for me I get the honor of calling 2 audibles one for Russell Wilson and the other regarding my formal educational future. As fans we do not control what happens on the field but we can control our response to what happens there.
