No ‘tag’ for Seahawks
After signing leading rusher Marshawn Lynch to a multiyear contract Sunday night, the Seahawks did not use their franchise tag by today’s 1 p.m. PT deadline.
The club was prepared to tag Lynch, if a long-term deal could not be reached by the deadline.
But 21 teams did use their franchise tags to prevent players from becoming unrestricted free agents on March 13 – including the Saints, who gave quarterback Drew Brees the “exclusive” tag to prevent him from negotiating with other teams.
Here’s the list of tagged players, as released by the league:
Arizona: DE Calais Campbell
Atlanta: CB Brent Grimes
Baltimore: RB Ray Rice
Chicago: RB Matt Forte
Cincinnati: K Mike Nugent
Cleveland: K Phil Dawson
Dallas: LB Anthony Spencer
Denver: K Matt Prater
Detroit: DE Cliff Avril
Indianapolis: DE Robert Mathis
Jacksonville: K Josh Scobee
Kansas City: WR Dwayne Bowe
New England: WR Wes Welker
New Orleans: QB Drew Brees
New York Giants: P Steve Weatherford
Oakland: S Tyvon Branch
Philadelphia: WR DeSean Jackson
San Francisco: S Dashon Goldson
Tampa Bay: K Connor Barth
Tennessee: S Michael Griffin
Washington: TE Fred Davis
All but Brees are allowed to sign an offer sheet with another team, with the compensation being two first-round draft
