This weekend, Mariners pitchers and catchers reported to spring training in Peoria. On Saturday, pitchers and catchers arrived at the complex in Peoria, underwent team physicals and unpacked their lockers for the first time this season. Some will catch up with teammates they haven't seen for months while others will meet their new teammates. On Sunday, they took the field for the first time as a group.
This will be the 11th spring training I cover and with the early reporting date and trip to Japan this year I will be doing things a little differently. Rather than start on day one and then come back to Seattle for a couple of weeks in the middle of spring training I will head down to Peoria shortly after position players report and stay with the team until they return to Seattle for their home opener. I will be with them for seven straight weeks in total.
This spring is different in that they start earlier and will take the week to travel to Japan and play two regular season games near the end of March. I get the feeling that things will move very quickly once the games begin. There are big decisions to be made before the team leaves for Japan and we will be there for that.
We will broadcast a ton of games and bring you five Cactus League Report Shows once again from the Salty Senorita this spring. I will travel with the team to Japan and cannot wait to bring you the stories from that trip. Then it will be back to Peoria for a week and then off to Oakland and Texas to restart the season. This is going to be a heck of a spring.
