EMPTYING THE NOGGIN
• YEAH !!!!! THAT IS A GREAT WIN. FIGHT, EFFORT, GRIT, DETERMINATION. AWESOME. LOVE IT !!!!!!
• One of the biggest stories of the night is Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter guarding LaMarcus Aldridge for the final 18 minutes of the game and allowing just 1 field goal. Aldridge had hit 6 for 6 in the 3rd quarter when Tyrone switched Millsap off of Aldridge. Aldridge had been amazing up to this moment.
• The Jazz won a game closing with a combo of Harris/Watson, Howard/Hayward, Miles, Millsap and Kanter. Every night it is a different lineup and Tyrone Corbin has the confidence in every one of these guys to finish a game.
• Jazz had 6 shots to take the lead and didn’t break through until the 7th and then they never gave the lead back.
• Gordon Hayward showed a lot tonight, he had a miserable 1st half. At halftime he came out by himself on the floor and shot free throws to collect himself and then had a great 3rd quarter. Another chance for him to fold and this kid just won’t do it.
• Earl Watson was brilliant in the 4th quarter. Nate McMillan told me before the game that the difference in this team is Earl’s influence. That is what he had noticed.
• This game had a ton of moments that changed the game. It will be hard to remember them all but I will do my best.
• The Jazz answered each of Batum’s three’s with a field goal preventing the Blazers from running away
• The final one of those was the Watson to Evans alley opp
• Evans commits a terrible turnover and the Jazz answer with amazing defense that forces Felton a 20% three point shooter this year into a long three.
• With the score 82-79 Kanter denied Aldridge and then slide over to block a Felton layup
• The Watson sequence of genius took place with about 4 minutes left. He drew a charge, hit a jumper, dropped a finger roll layup and had a steal from behind.
• Millsap missed a jumper at 87-84 with 2:17 left and Batum rebounded and Watson knocked it from behind for the steal. That may be the play of the night.
• If that isn’t then the next play Kanter is blocked by Camby and the Blazers are on a faast break when Hayward blocks Jamal Crawford on a layup to hold the three point lead
• Millsap answers that with a unreal 1 on 1 move on Aldridge.
• WHAT A GAME !!!!!!!
• All these plays are about the same thing. Fighting, saying in the game, not quitting, battling, heart and effort. That is what makes this game such a terrific win.
• These guys are learning very important lessons on how to value possessions, Favors hustle off the Hayward misses, so many to be talked about. The lesson is that every possessions matters and when you win games by 3 or 4 points you never know which possession it is going to be.
• Yes our clutch free throw shooting sucks
• The Blazers backcourt of Felton and Wesley is a real problem for them. Wesley was not good tonight and Felton looks like he always has. Wesley’s 1 assists in 25 minutes is not good.
• If Batum is injured that is a huge blow to the Blazers they desperately need him.
• Jazz shot 38% tonight and won – you have to be a very tough team to win that game
